The Chord Electronics Hugo TT2 is a reference-grade DAC, preamplifier, and headphone amplifier designed and manufactured in Great Britain. Its beating heart is a Xilinx Artix 7 FPGA, custom-coded by Rob Watts, with 86 x 208MHz cores running in parallel to create an advanced 16FS WTA 1 filter with 98,304 taps and a 10-element pulse array design. This represents five times the processing power of the original Hugo TT and double that of the transportable Hugo 2. A high-power discrete output stage coupled with second-order noise shaping integrated between the DAC output and filter massively reduces distortion, while six super capacitors replace the battery supply of its predecessor, delivering huge, linear dynamic currents when the music demands it.

The Hugo TT2 supports PCM from 44.1kHz to 768kHz in 16- to 32-bit resolution, and DSD from DSD64 to DSD512 (native via Windows). Digital inputs include one USB Type-B, two coaxial BNC, two optical, and aptX Bluetooth. Analog outputs include stereo XLR, stereo RCA, two 6.35mm headphone jacks, and one 3.5mm headphone jack. Two DX BNC expansion outputs are provided for connection to the Chord Hugo M Scaler, which upscales the incoming signal to 705.6/768kHz before feeding it back to the TT2’s dual BNC inputs for a dramatic leap in resolution and spatial performance. The unit features four user-selectable digital filter modes and a three-stage crossfeed function for headphone listening that creates a more natural, speaker-like stereo image. Volume control is digital with a high-precision stepped attenuator accessible via the top-panel controls or the included IR remote.
