I own Bliss Hifi, a high-end audio boutique based in Minnesota and authorized Synergistic Research dealer. This Synergistic Research Tranquility Base UEF isolation platform is in on consignment from one of my local clients. Three are available, all in the black finish, and priced individually. The platforms show medium to heavy cosmetic wear including scratches and scuffs on the top surface, though they look great once a component is placed on top. Please see photos for details on the cosmetic condition. All three are in perfect working order. This is the standard-size Tranquility Base UEF, now succeeded by the Tranquility Base Carbon ($2,250 original MSRP, discontinued).

Each platform comes with its original packaging, active biasing circuit, MPC power supply, and a set of three MiG 2.0 footers.

The Tranquility Base is one of those Synergistic Research products that tends to surprise people the most. The idea of an active isolation platform conditioning signal inside your component sounds abstract until you actually try it, and then you do not want to take it off. What the Tranquility Base does is lower the electromagnetic noise generated by the component’s own internal circuitry. Every printed circuit board, every trace, every capacitor and transformer creates EM fields that interact with one another and contaminate the signal before it ever leaves the chassis. The Tranquility Base’s active EM Cell works inductively through the bottom of the component to stabilize and balance those fields. In practice, the noise floor drops, spatial information becomes more defined, and there is an ease and openness to the music that was being masked by internal EM interference. The mid-size Tranquility Base also includes Ground Plane technology for additional noise floor reduction. These were pulled from a well-sorted system where they spent their entire life under components, which is why the top surfaces show wear but the platforms themselves are fully functional. Having three available is a rare opportunity to treat multiple components in your system at once.

The Synergistic Research Tranquility Base UEF is an active electromagnetic isolation platform designed and hand-built at Synergistic Research’s factory in California. It was originally developed to address the EM noise generated by computers used in audio systems, and was later found to benefit all electronics including DACs, preamplifiers, amplifiers, turntables, and CD transports. The Tranquility Base UEF is the mid-size model in the lineup, sitting between the smaller Basik and the larger XL. It features a six-layer vibration isolation laminate with a dark acrylic top and a cast aluminum base and rim that drains mechanical vibrations to ground. Sandwiched inside the laminate layers is an active EM Cell with UEF (Uniform Energy Field) technology and Graphene, which conditions electromagnetic fields generated by the internal circuitry of any component placed on top. The EM Cell works inductively, meaning it does not require a physical connection to the component. The mid-size Tranquility Base also incorporates Ground Plane technology for additional noise floor reduction beyond what the Basik model offers. The active circuit is powered by a single-lead MPC (Mini Power Coupler) power supply. Three receptacles on the rear panel accommodate the MPC power supply, an Enigma Tuning Bullet (included) for fine-tuning the platform’s sonic character from warm to open, and a ground wire with its own AC wall plug. Multiple Tranquility Bases can be daisy-chained from a single power supply, and the ground connection can be further enhanced by connecting to a Synergistic Research Active Ground Block. The platform includes one set of MiG 2.0 (Mechanical Interface Grounding) footers ($249 value) for isolating the component and platform from the supporting surface. Dimensions: 18.5 inches wide x 16 inches deep x 1.5 inches tall. The Tranquility Base UEF has been succeeded by the Tranquility Base Carbon, which uses a billet aluminum chassis with carbon fiber laminate and updated EM Cell technology derived from the Galileo SX PowerCell.
