This amplifier is part of a 16-channel home theater system that has been taken down as my client prepares to move to a new home.

The McIntosh MC205 is a five-channel solid-state power amplifier manufactured by McIntosh Laboratory from 2006 to 2019. Handcrafted in Binghamton, New York, the MC205 delivers 200 watts per channel into 4 or 8 ohm loudspeakers with all channels driven simultaneously. Total harmonic distortion is held to a maximum of 0.005% at any power level from 250 milliwatts to rated output across the entire 20Hz to 20kHz bandwidth.
The amplifier features McIntosh’s proprietary Dynamic Power Manager (DPM) circuitry, which ensures identical power output into either 4 or 8 ohm loads with peak output current capability of 25 amperes per channel. The patented Power Guard circuit monitors the input signal and prevents the amplifier from being overdriven into clipping distortion. McIntosh’s Sentry Monitor output stage protection and thermal protection circuits ensure long-term reliability and trouble-free operation.
The MC205 can be configured as a traditional five-channel home theater amplifier or operated in two-zone mode with three channels assigned to one zone and the remaining two channels to a second zone. Both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs are provided for maximum system flexibility. Multi-way binding posts accommodate banana plugs, spade terminals, or bare wire connections at the speaker outputs.
The power supply features a large toroidal transformer capable of delivering over 35 amperes of continuous current, ensuring stable and noise-free operation regardless of AC line voltage variations. Three illuminated blue wattmeters on the glass front panel display real-time power output for the front left, center, and front right channels. The meters are peak-responding and utilize McIntosh’s signature fiber-optic LED illumination system.
Remote power control capability allows the MC205 to be turned on and off from a compatible McIntosh preamplifier or A/V control center via a 12-volt trigger connection.
