More about the unit: The Synergistic Research MiG SX (Mechanical Interface Grounding) isolation footers are an evolution of SR’s original MiG design first introduced in 2008, refined through extensive double-blind listening tests to achieve the precision and focus of the world’s most expensive machined isolation footers while preserving the expansive soundstaging and tunability that made the original MiGs a secret weapon at audio shows. Each footer begins with a specially tuned resonator forged from high carbon steel, housed within a three-piece CNC-machined chassis of aircraft-grade aluminum and carbon fiber. This chassis is engineered to transfer mechanical vibration through a special tuning disc and UEF tuning element into carbon tungsten ball bearings, a material selected after SR evaluated stainless steel, brass, and aluminum alternatives in controlled listening comparisons. Each internal element was independently voiced and refined until the ideal combination of materials was identified, a process that would have been impossible through design theory alone.

The MiG SX offers two distinct placement configurations that allow component-by-component voicing of your system. In the Pin-Point configuration (two footers round side down, one round side up), the presentation sharpens with pinpoint image placement and tighter, more controlled bass, an orientation that tends to work best under power conditioners, digital servers, and hard drives. In the Ambient configuration (two footers round side up, one round side down), the sound becomes more layered and liquid with fuller bass and more rounded, dimensional images, a presentation often preferred under DACs, phono preamplifiers, and solid-state components where a more tube-like warmth is desired. Most listeners will find that one configuration predominates across their system, with at least one component performing best in the opposite orientation, and SR strongly recommends comparing both options under each component to achieve the best overall synergy.
