I own Bliss Hifi, a high-end audio boutique based in Minnesota. These Nordost Tyr 2 speaker cables are in on consignment from one of my local clients. They are a 4M pair terminated with Nordost Z-Plug banana connectors. The cables are in excellent condition and in perfect working order. These cables were part of a 16-channel home theater system that has been taken down as the client prepares to move to a new home. Several other components from this same system are also available, including McIntosh amplifiers and a Trinnov Altitude 16 processor.

The Tyr 2 sits at the top of Nordost’s Norse 2 series, and in practice its only real competition comes from Nordost’s own Valhalla 2 and Odin 2 reference lines. What makes the Tyr 2 special is how it manages to deliver the speed, transparency, and resolution that Nordost is known for while also bringing real weight and body to the music. A lot of fast, detailed cables sound thin or lean when you push them with dynamic material, and the Tyr 2 does not do that. Bass has genuine authority and grip, the midrange is open and naturally textured, and the top end extends without any hint of etch or glare. The 4M length is long enough to accommodate most real-world system layouts without compromising the cable’s electrical performance, and at 96% speed of light, signal propagation delay is essentially a non-factor. If you are running a system that deserves better than entry-level or mid-tier cabling but the jump to Valhalla 2 pricing is not in the cards, the Tyr 2 is where the serious performance begins.

The Nordost Tyr 2 is the flagship speaker cable in Nordost’s Norse 2 series, sitting directly below the Valhalla 2 (Reference) and Odin 2 (Supreme Reference) lines. Designed and manufactured in Holliston, Massachusetts, the Tyr 2 employs 26 x 22AWG silver-plated 99.99999% OFC (oxygen-free copper) solid core conductors in Nordost’s proprietary Micro Mono-Filament construction. This technique involves winding a precision FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) monofilament in a tight spiral around each individual conductor before extruding an outer FEP sleeve, creating a virtual air dielectric that minimizes contact between conductor and insulation. The result is dramatically reduced dielectric absorption and signal loss compared to conventional insulation methods. The Tyr 2 also benefits from technologies that trickled down from the Reference and Supreme Reference ranges, including mechanically tuned conductor spacing, lay, and length, which reduce internal microphony and high-frequency impedance resonance. The flat ribbon FEP insulation is extruded to aerospace-grade precision. Electrical specifications include 10.7pF/ft capacitance and 0.13uH/ft inductance, with a propagation delay of 96% the speed of light. The cable is 2.25 inches wide in its flat-ribbon configuration.
